Between four depositions, a court hearing, and a figurative flame being lit under my figurative tookus on the campaign trail, this week has been a bit too busy to write a blog post.
But funny enough, during this same week, I had a jolt of pride come rushing on as the place of blogs in the community was challenged. I don't need to name names, but earlier this week, a supporter of my primary opponent suggested that all blog writers in Howard County do is "bitch, bitch, bitch" never taking on the tasks that they prescribe as necessary to accomplish.
I needed help picking myself up off the floor.
The absolute best thing about this particular blog community is that the universe of perspectives all come with substantive backing. A former Village Board chair and Planning Board member. A former Democratic Central Committee and current Village Board member. A former Village Board member, CA Board candidate, church volunteer, teacher, and "Second Chance-ivist". A Howard County Conservancy volunteer and locavore advocate. A published author and Howard County historian. A nonprofit Executive Director, foster parent, and retired public employee. A UK ex-pat who decided that living in another Country was not enough; she needed to volunteer nutritionist services to the local food bank AND serve us all as a celebrity bartender. (And if I left you out, it is not a reflection of your contribution, but rather a reflection of my need to not upset a judge with my tardiness.)
In my current station, I don't even know if I belong in rank with such people.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but everyone is not entitled to be right. I've cringed when titled a "blogger" in the press, but that is more due to the perception attached to such a word than anything else. Every day we "do and write" we are pushing back. And for all of you that read what we have to say, you know better.
That's all for today. Have a great Friday doing what you love!
